Apparently the economy is in shambles. Has anyone heard about this? Thousands of layoffs, retirement accounts dwindling, home values plummeting, credit markets wearing thin, Bernie Madoff ponzi'ing his way into the headlines. Yes, I suppose times are tough.
So what did I decide to do but "resign" from my job. Or take a sabbatical as I have been calling it. Or a mini retirement. Either way, in this horrible, worst economy ever, blah, blah, I did it. Some people call it admirable, some call it crazy. I guess we will soon find out.
After graduating from college in 02, with no particular set of skills I was told I should go into "Sales", which is what they tell every kid with half a brain, likes to have a good time and can form a sentence If some company out there will give me a base + commission + car package I shouldn't complain, right? Well, after 6 years of cold calling, door knocking, always pushing something on someone, I decided enoughs enough. Hence the title, I became voluntarily unemployed.
I have switched jobs before and the process always seemed so sneaky. Go behind your employer's back, set up interviews, ride alongs, etc; and hope you find the "dream job". Well what I have seen is that you are so ready to leave the current job, you jump ship at any sign of life. Not this time!
I chose to take some time off, free my mind, clear my head, find myself. Cliche, cliche and more cliche, but seriously? At 28 years old, no wife and kids of my own, I feel now is the time. I am not willing to go through life miserable and "working for the weekend", winding up 40 years old wondering what the hell happened to my life. Carpe Diem!
So what is my move? I'm going to start a blog, chronicling the events of this sabbatical. Who knows, maybe someone will notice and offer me millions of dollars for no apparent reason...but I'm not counting on that! Just looking to put my thoughts down somewhere and hopefully learn something... about myself, life, family/friends etc;
And so it goes.

You want to make some keyword lists for me in your spare time? I can pay you very little but might need some help.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant... I'll be living vicariously through you cause I don't have the balls to jump ship... yet.
ReplyDeleteAppleseed,
ReplyDeleteWhats a keyword? Is it like a vowel? Yes may be interested.
there's no such thing as a 'dream job.' just like a certain waltham 'university' makes you any more marketable to employers than cape cod community college.
